Notes on the Work in Progress
WHEN WE STUMBLED UPON THIS WORLD YOU WERE ALREADY GONE
All last year, I was working on images for a new book of collages that included drawings, gel prints, and small paintings. The book does not have a name yet and as of now has not yet been bound, but the actual pages are done, sans text which I will be putting in shortly. The subject of the book might be seen as somewhat sad – after our human world had collapsed, the empty ruins of civilization are found by all sorts of mythical creatures: fauns, minotaurs, centaurs, etc… they roam the ruins in wonder and puzzlement. The thoughts and feelings of old civilization can still be felt in the air and the stones and structures left behind.

Last year has been an emotional roller-coaster for many of us and this was my way of keeping myself sane in the year of onslaught of bad news. It felt healing to create these images, to take truly depressing articles from the Atlantic, New York Review of Books, the Foreign Affairs, etc, and put them in my collages, draw on top of them, print, and mostly – create spaces for my creatures to roam.

It was wonderful to draw so many fauns, some sad, some ecstatic, some reading books, some drinking wine (The Discovery of Booze are two of my favorite pages, they are full of Joy).
